Personal Use Firewood Season Open
The 2012 firewood cutting season begins August 1, 2012, on the Magdalena Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest. The season will run through February, 2013, weather permitting. The district will issue permits to cut green wood and dead/down wood.
Christmas tree cutting announced
Cibola National Forest and Grasslands is selling Christmas Tree cutting permits for the Magdalena Ranger Districts. Trees may be cut before December 24.
Hunters Encouraged To Make Safety A Priority
Successful hunting trips require a combination of skill, patience and most importantly, preparation. With hunting season upon us, the Gila National Forest is encouraging preparation first and reminding hunters to brush up on important hunting safety tips before hitting the woods.
Update On Three Wildfires West Of Magdalena
From the Cibola National Forest Ranger Station in Magdalena:
• AL Fire is located about 20 miles southwest of Magdalena. Currently, the fire is approximately 150 acres in size. Fire behavior is described as moderate, backing and flanking down slope, burning in ponderosa pine and piñon juniper vegetation. Total Fire Personnel: 3

Cibola National Forest Relaxes Fire Restrictions
Cibola National Forest and Grasslands Supervisor Nancy Rose announced changes to fire restrictions to three districts. “We’ve received additional precipitation that is more widespread, and have had higher humidity levels at these districts, which should limit the spread of any human or natural-caused wildfires,” Rose said.

Cibola Restrictions Still In Place
Magdalena Ranger District has received some precipitation, but it hasn’t been enough to move from Stage III fire restrictions. District staff will continue to monitor the conditions to assess when it will be safe to move to Stage II restrictions.
