Prescribed Burn In San Mateos

The Cibola National Forest, Magdalena Ranger District is planning a prescribed burn to help improve wildlife habitat and forest health. The burn is expected to begin in the next two weeks and will continue until completed, depending on weather and fuel conditions.

A Man, a Plan, 37 Water Wells: the San Augustin Desert

It’s been four years since someone happened to spot a legal notice in the paper: an application from the Augustin Plains Ranch, LLC to the State Engineer for permission to drill 37 rather hefty water wells out in the San Augustin Plains. The plan was to extract 54,000 acre-feet of ground water per year.

Update On Three Wildfires West Of Magdalena

From the Cibola National Forest Ranger Station in Magdalena:

• AL Fire is located about 20 miles southwest of Magdalena. Currently, the fire is approximately 150 acres in size. Fire behavior is described as moderate, backing and flanking down slope, burning in ponderosa pine and piñon juniper vegetation. Total Fire Personnel: 3

The following items were taken from reports at the Socorro County Sheriff’s Office.

May 16

A vehicle was pulled over at 6:15 p.m. on Interstate 25 at mile marker 124 for a traffic violation. It was found the Silver City driver had a suspended/revoked license with an arrest clause. She was arrested and taken to the detention center.
